From ancient royalty to modern-day heirlooms, pearls have long symbolized elegance and quiet strength. But behind their soft glow lies a rich history and a world of variety that makes each pearl truly unique. Join us as we explore their fascinating origins and the different types that continue to inspire fine jewellery designs today.

South Sea Pearls
Hailed as the 'Queen of Pearls', South Sea Pearls are among the rarest gems found in the ocean’s depths. Cultivated in the warm, pristine waters of the South Pacific primarily around Australia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
Celebrated for their exceptional size, radiant luster, and naturally rich hues, ranging from creamy white and silver to deep, golden tones. Unlike others, South Sea pearls can grow for up to three years inside the oyster.

Tahitian Pearls
The 'black pearls of the Pacific', are among the most exotic gems in the world. Cultivated in the warm, crystal-clear lagoons of French Polynesia, these pearls are produced by the black-lipped oyster, Pinctada margaritifera, which gives them their signature dark hues.
Tahitian pearls display a stunning range of natural colors, including peacock green, aubergine, silver and blue, each shimmering with a mesmerising metallic-like luster.

Mikimoto Pearls
Kokichi Mikimoto took the Japan's Pearl industry by a storm in the late 19th Century. He was the first person to successfully culture a pearl, turning a once rare natural occurrence into a refined art form.
Sourced primarily from Akoya oysters, these pearls radiate classic beauty typically in shades of white, cream, and soft pink.

Keshi Pearls
Unlike others, Keshi pearls are celebrated for their flatter irregular shapes.
A beautiful byproduct of other unsuccessful culturing processes, Keshi pearls form without a nucleus, resulting in solid nacre that holds a captivating glow reflecting light from every angle.
Pearls are timeless symbols of natural beauty. At Minka Jewels, we see pearls as more than adornments, they’re whispers of the sea, each one hand picked for its unique beautiful glow, from golden South Seas to luminous Keshis.
