Jessica McCormack Atlantis Tourmaline Diamond Gold Ring

Tourmaline Love

Tourmaline has always held a special place in my heart; it’s been part of Minka Jewels since day one. There’s something truly irresistible about this gemstone: the vibrancy of colour, the way it plays with the light, and the sheer variety of tones it comes in. No two stones are ever quite the same, and that’s what makes it so exciting.

A Rainbow of Possibilities

Tourmaline comes in almost every shade you can imagine, from soft pinks and golden ambers to deep forest greens and vivid lagoon blues. Each parcel I see from my trusted suppliers feels like a painter’s palette laid out in gemstone form. It’s genuinely thrilling, every time.

What makes tourmaline even more magical is that it’s pleochroic, meaning you can often see two colours in the same stone, depending on how the light hits it. Rotate a green tourmaline and you might catch flashes of blue or a golden undertone, it gives the stone real depth and personality.

A Natural Wonder

With a hardness of around 7–7.5 on the Mohs scale, tourmaline is a practical and durable choice for everyday jewellery, whether that’s a chunky cocktail ring, a pendant, or a beautiful pair of earrings. I love how wearable it is, while still being full of character.

Some of the best stones come from Brazil, and one of the most incredible stories is that of Paraíba tourmaline. This copper-rich variety was discovered in the 1980s in the hills of northern Brazil and has this otherworldly glow, an almost neon blue-green that feels electric. It's rare, sought-after, and absolutely mesmerising.

Green Tourmaline. Always a Favourite

I’ve always had a soft spot for green tourmalines. The richness of colour, the glow, the freshness, it feels alive. Each one feels like a tiny treasure straight from nature. How did the Earth manage to create something so perfect?

On the Rise

Over the past few years, we’ve definitely seen a rise in people choosing tourmalines for their jewellery, not just for statement pieces, but increasingly for engagement rings too. The demand is growing, and with it, the price. Particularly for vivid colours, clean and well-cut stones. But for something that feels truly one-of-a-kind, it’s a wonderful investment.
